Week 3: Robotics + Art

In many ways, art is influenced by robotics, but what we do in our everyday lives. The different printing technology that (he) was able to invent, had a very impactful meaning on the scientific method. Throughout the Industrial Revolution, the inventions that were made with the printing press started to become very noticeable. I thought it was interesting that it was brought up early on that  "Science, technology, and culture is always a two-way street" (Victoria Vesna) because we have seen many different connections that can relate to this exact statement throughout our readings and lectures.

The art of robotics has become very advanced, which we see on campus with the food delivery service "Coco". There are many different uses for all robotics that we have been consumed by what will happen years down the line. LSU shares the relationship with robotics, art, and artificial intelligence to make this science work. Many might argue that AI and robotics functions could lead to the questioning of what the authenticity is behind the art.

Benjamin Walter focuses on art and culture, discussing the age of mechanical reproductions, "for the first time in world history, mechanical reproduction emancipates the work of art from its parasitical dependence on ritual" (IV). He also sheds light on the uniqueness that is within "a work of art" and "tradition" (IV) as well as the idea that mechanical reproduction has changed the way people may view art, like photography in "an independent manner by the appeal of art works to the masses" (XII).

  1. Hi Carly, I really enjoyed reading your blog post for this week's material about robotics and art. I was wondering what your favorite artistic medium is that demonstrates that relationship between robotics and art?

  2. Hi Carly, this was a really great blog post. I really enjoyed reading about Benjamin Walter and how you interpreted what he had to say about mechanical reproduction. I also like the pictures that were used in this blog post especially, the newsweek one. Great post.
